Step 3 – Products

This step shows you how to add products to your Asolora store so customers can discover and purchase them. Complete each field carefully to maximize visibility and sales.

Before You Begin

Asolora is committed to promoting authentically made-in-Africa goods. To maintain marketplace quality and trust:

  • All products must be made or created in Africa.
  • Product descriptions, pricing, images, and availability must be accurate.
  • Prohibited items — including illegal goods, counterfeit items, or products that violate third-party rights — are strictly forbidden.
  • You are fully responsible for the quality, safety, legality, and compliance of all products you list, and for meeting any applicable laws or standards.

Your first set of products will require approval before they appear on your store. This helps us ensure marketplace guidelines are followed. Products will also be periodically reviewed for adherence to these standards.

What You’ll Need

  • Completion of your Payment Setup from Step 2
  • For each product:
    • Product name and description
    • Product images (high quality)
    • Origin country, price and inventory details
    • Category or collection
    • Shipping options (if required)

Add a Product

Go to Vendor Dashboard > Products to view, add, and manage your listings.

  1. Select Add New Product
  2. Enter your product details:
    • Title:
      • Keep it short, clear, and descriptive
      • Avoid using the same title for multiple products
    • Product Type: Select an appropriate value; more information below
    • Category: Select an appropriate value; more information below
    • Price
    • Origin Country: Choose where the product was created so we can showcase its African origin
    • Short Description: A brief accurate summary of the product
    • Description: More details on the product; accuracy is critical
    • Images: Upload clear, high-resolution images
  3. Configure Inventory:
    • SKU
    • Stock status
  4. Configure Shipping and Tax
    • If the product does not require separate shipping cost, uncheck the option; otherwise, select applicable shipping options
    • Tax status and class are handled automatically by Asolora — do not modify these
  5. Under Other Options, set Product Status to Draft
    • This avoids multiple requests for approval while you are saving updates to the product
  6. Save the product
  7. Set other fields as you choose, refine the product field contents and save your changes as needed
  8. When the product is ready to publish,
    • Change Product Status to Pending Review
    • Save Product to submit it for review
    • Once approved, it will appear in your store.

Tip: To ensure success:

  • Keep your inventory updated
  • Offer competitive shipping rates when not already included in price
  • Maintain transparent policies

Selecting a Product Type

  • Simple Product: A single item with no variations. One price and one SKU.
  • Grouped Product: A collection of related simple products displayed together. Customers can buy the items individually or as a set. To create one:
    • First create the individual products (if they don’t already exist)
    • Then add them to the grouped product
  • Variable Product: A product that comes in multiple versions — such as sizes, colors, or materials. Each variation can have its own price, SKU, stock level, attributes, and more. Use this when your product has options a buyer must choose from. To create one:
    • Create the product
    • Set the Product Type to Variable
    • Add Attributes to the product, and select the Visible on the product page and Used for variations checkboxes
    • Add variations by selecting Create variations for all attributes
      • Expand each valid attribute and update details as needed
      • Remove variations that are not needed
    • Save Variations, then Save Product

Choosing the Right Category

Selecting the correct category helps buyers find your products easily and ensures the correct sales tax rules are applied automatically. You don’t need to manage tax codes — Asolora handles that for you.

  • Select the category that best matches the item. For example:
    • Clothing: Shirts, dresses, pants, traditional wear, headwraps worn as clothing
    • Fabric & Textiles: Fabric by the yard, uncut textile panels, woven textiles, materials used for sewing
    • Accessories: Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, beads, belts — items primarily decorative
    • Décor & Crafts: Baskets, carvings, wall hangings, sculptures, ceramics, decorative home items
  • When in doubt:
    • Choose the category that best reflects the primary use of the item
    • Think about how a typical buyer would search for it
    • If uncertain, select Needs Review — our team will double-check and adjust if necessary
    • You can also reach out to us anytime via Vendor Dashboard > Admin Support

What Asolora handles for you:

  • We map your product category to the correct sales tax rules for the buyer’s location
  • We monitor category selections and may adjust them if needed (we’ll always contact you first)
  • If a product requires a tax exemption or special handling, Asolora will apply the proper override
